Teen Arrested In Connection To Conspiracy To Commit Robbery, Officers Discover Additional Robbery
WARSAW — A Warsaw teen has been arrested in connection to a conspiracy to commit robbery that occurred in October. During the investigation, officers discovered an additional robbery that had occurred.
Phillip Nicholas Boyd, 17, 603 N. Parker St., Warsaw, is facing charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony, battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony, and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
A formerly released press release stated that at approximately 1:25 a.m. Oct. 30, a call was dispatched reference armed subjects in the 400 block of South Columbia Street, Warsaw. The caller stated three men jumped out of an older vehicle with firearms. The caller further advised he witnessed the occupants re-enter the same vehicle, described as small, dark in color with a loud exhaust.
Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers identified the driver and Nathan Dollar, 18, Columbia City, and the occupants as Jeffery Walker, 22, Milford, and David Lee Mefford, 19, South Whitley.
The affidavit states that Dollar advised he drove Walker and Mefford to Warsaw to rob people because one of their friends, identified as CC, had recently been robbed. An AR style rifle was found in the vehicle and Dollar advised it belonged to Mefford.
Dollar further advised that he had parked the vehicle and they began walking toward the residence of CC when Dollar talked them out of going and they turned around. Mefford was carrying a four-way lug wrench and Walker was carrying the rifle and a crowbar.
Officers searched the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia, a four-way lug wrench, pry bar, PMC .223 caliber rifle and eight cartridges. Officers then searched Walker and found 12 baggies weighing 11.5 grams that contained marijuana.
The affidavit states that a search warrant was obtained and cell phones were obtained from the three males. Information was found identifying their subject, referred to as AA.
When officer’s went to AA’s residence a vehicle drove by slowly. Officers stopped the vehicle and the driver advised that CC had gone to AA’s residence to sell marijuana and that AA was battered and his marijuana stolen. Officers obtained permission to search the residence and found drug paraphernalia.
AA advised that Nathan Ries, 17, Syracuse, and a male subject hit and kicked CC and robbed him of his marijuana. She stated they used her Snapchat to order marijuana and then beat up CC and stole the marijuana. Boyd was also at the residence.
Officers spoke with Ries who confirmed that AA had used to Snapchat to arrange a purchase of 1/2 ounce of marijuana for $130. When CC came to the residue, Ries advised AA walked him upstairs where Ries, Boyd and another male subject were waiting. Ries advised Boyd struck and kicked CC.
According to the affidavit, CC admitted to going to Warsaw to see AA after she set up for him to come over through Snapchat. She had advised that one male would be there but there were three. CC stated that in AA’s room, one of the subjects started hitting him and he went unconscious. When he woke up the subjects were telling him to leave the residence.
CC advised that he had grown up with Mefford and when Mefford found out about the occurrence he “took matters into his own hands.”
Mefford, Walker and Dollar were booked in Kosciusko County Jail on Oct. 31 and held on $20,250 surety and cash bond.
Boyd was booked in Kosciusko County Jail on Dec. 16 and held on $30,500 surety and cash bond.
A warrant has been issued for Ries’s arrest for charges of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 2 felony; battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony; and theft, a class A misdemeanor.
