Dorothy Anna Bontrager
Dorothy Anna Bontrager, 86, Goshen, died on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at her residence following an illness with lymphoma.
Dorothy was born June 11, 1931, in Nappanee to Henry and Jemima (Kuhns) Schmucker. On Sept. 8, 1949, at Fair Haven Amish Mennonite Church, Goshen, she married Eli A. Bontrager. He died March 4, 1986.
She is survived by her children, son, Norman E. (Lori) Bontrager of Goshen and his family, Loren (Becky) Bontrager (Halle and Graham), and Shannon (Jordan) Burkholder (Marissa and Conner); son, Daniel E. (Linda) Bontrager of Middlebury; and daughter, Mable (Ed) Mendoza of Guatemala and her family, AD (Rashel) Mendoza (Lucy and Bo); and Maeven (Chris) Miller. Dorothy is also survived by her siblings; Florence Schrock of Middlebury; Robert (Becky) Schmucker of Olney, Illinois; Iva (Melvin) Miller of Sarasota, Florida; Alma Gingerich of Goshen; Delbert Schmucker of Middlebury; Howard (Susie) Schmucker of Sarasota, Florida; Betty (John) Yoder of Goshen.
Dorothy was a member at Clinton Frame Church for 30 years. She enjoyed working at Goshen Hospital as a housekeeper for over 25 years and spending winters in Florida during her retirement years. Dorothy was a good friend and had a great sense of humor. She loved playing games, traveling and sharing life with her many friends and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her positive attitude and love of Jesus guided her life. Some of her last words included these sentences: I love you. Jesus is wonderful. How beautiful heaven must be.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 CR 35, Goshen, and 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service at the church. Pastors Linda Miller and Danny Yoder will officiate. Burial will be at Miller 8 Square Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials, in honor of Dorothy, may be given to Students International.
