Leonard Allen ‘Danny’ Gray — UPDATED
Leonard Allen “Danny” Gray, 85, Warsaw, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born on Sept. 26, 1932 in Pierceton to Leonard M and Eva H. (Buss) Gray.
He was a lifetime Pierceton and Warsaw area resident, graduated in 1950 from Pierceton High School, and served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea for two years. He was married on Aug. 27, 1961 in North Webster, (Epworth Forest) to Nancy J. (Carter) Roberts who survives.
He retired in 1998 from Warsaw Community School Corporation after 11 years. He was the former owner and operator of Grays Supermarket in North Webster from 1960-1972. He formerly was employed at D and C Construction in North Manchester, Carey Construction in Warsaw, L.M. Berry & Company in Warsaw, constructed the cabins for the former Clarksville in North Webster where he also served as a blacksmith, and reconstructed the first one room school house in Kosciusko County.
He was a life member of the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association) & American Legion Post 253 in North Webster. Member of the Hoosier Herpetological Society, Hoosier Poultry Breeders of Indiana, and formerly attended the Baptist Church in Pierceton.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, Warsaw; his daughter, Judy (Tom) Aycock, Elkhart; son, Monty (Christine) Gray, DeSoto, Kan.; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Debbie Evans.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd 13 & CR 500N, North Webster, IN. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home with Fred Clark officiating. Private family burial will take place in the Washington Union Cemetery in Pierceton.
