Joseph Jay DeWitt — UPDATED
Joseph Jay “Joey” DeWitt, 52, Pierceton, passed away at 10:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at his home. He was born on July 19, 1965 in Garrett, IN to Joe Harold & Ella Nora (Wolonski) DeWitt.
He was a lifetime Syracuse and North Webster area resident and graduated in 1983 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. He was married on Dec. 18, 1993 in Syracuse to Cynthia S. “Cyndi” (Mullins) Hawthorne, who survives. He formerly worked at The Car Company in Warsaw for three years, Supreme Corporation in Goshen for 15 years, and Keystone Corporation in Wakarusa for three years.
He formerly attended the St. Martin’s De Porres Catholic Church in Syracuse and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Cyndi; his stepdaughter: Stephanie (Nate Ott) Cannon, Syracuse; three stepsons: David Hawthorne, Syracuse; Brock Hawthorne, Syracuse; and Joshua (Courtney Ruggier) Hawthorne, Warsaw; 14 step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; as well as many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 at Owen Family Funeral Home, St. Rd. 13 & C.R. 500 N, North Webster. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Sam Carnes of Open Bible Baptist Church of Warsaw officiating. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. St. Rd. 15, Warsaw.
