Wawasee Sports Wrap: Dec. 5
Girls Basketball
It was a long night for the Wawasee girls basketball team in its Northern Lakes Conference opener. Defending champion Northridge showed no signs of slowing down in a 44-25 dismantling of the Lady Warriors in Syracuse.
Wawasee couldn’t keep up with Northridge’s hot start, the Lady Raiders taking a 16-6 lead after the first quarter and pushing the lead up to a dozen, 24-12, at the half.
Morgan Litwiler scored 13 of her game-high 18 points in that first half run while Brooke McKinley finished with 12 points.
Top scorer for Wawasee was Aubrey Kuhn with eight points and three steals while Kabrea Rostochak and Hannah-Marie Lamle combined for eight points and six rebounds.
Madison Mottern had eight points and four rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Wawasee’s JV was crunched by Northridge 50-20. Madison Wienert scored 11 points to lead the Ridge juniors.
Wawasee (5-4, 0-1 NLC) visit Goshen Friday night.
Boys Basketball
Wawasee moved to 4-1 on the season with a 36-20 freshman boys hoops win at Elkhart Christian.
Ethan Carey led the Warriors with 11 points. Niles Hodges chimed in with six points, Kameron Salazar had five points and Adam Beer and Justin Castro each netted four points.
Wawasee will visit Goshen Thursday night.
