Redevelopment Commission Moves Forward With Airport Annexation
WARSAW — The Redevelopment Commission continues to move forward with annexing the Airport Industrial Park for sanitary sewer improvements. A transfer of funds and an engineering contract were both approved for the contract during the meeting held last night, Dec. 4.
The board approved transferring a total of $290,000 into the professional services fund for the engineering contract. Vice President Rick Snodgrass asked what would happen with the money if the annexation did not occur. City Planner Jeremy Skinner assured the board that an annexation of some degree will happen because of the requests for sewer in the area.
“Even if we only take in half of that industrial park, that main trunk line is what we are engineering,” explained Skinner. “This is really a long term plan that isn’t going to lose it’s value.”
After approving the transfer of funds, Skinner presented the engineering agreement with Wessler Engineering. The agreement includes three different tasks including determining the feasibility of a gravity-fed sewer line, designing the system and bidding the project out. The total cost of the agreement is not to exceed $296,000. The board approved this agreement.
Moving forward, the city is hosting multiple public hearings at Warsaw City Hall, 102 South Buffalo St., Warsaw, in the council chambers. The meetings will be open format and city representatives will be available to discuss the annexation plans for approximately one hour per meeting. The upcoming meetings are as follows:
- 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7.
- 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11.
- 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13.
- 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
- 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19.
If all goes as planned, construction on the sanitary sewer will begin in 2019.
