Girls basketball
Tippecanoe Valley’s girls basketball team moved to 2-0 in the Three Rivers Conference with a 59-53 overtime victory over host Wabash Saturday.
The two teams were tied at 48-48 at the end of regulation, but the ICGSA 3A, No.4 Vikings outscored the Apaches 11-5 over the extra frame for their fifth straight win.
Sophie Bussard poured in 25 points with three assists, six steals and five rebounds, and Emily Peterson put up 16 points for the Vikings, who led by 10 at the first quarter break before a 17-8 second period by Wabash left them leading by a tentative 24-23 halftime margin.
The Apaches got 14 points from Carmen Higdon and 13 from Bailey Yoakum.
Wrestling
Valley’s wrestling team traveled to the Maconaquah Invitational Saturday, where the Vikings finished 3-2.
Valley earned wins over North Miami (51-30), Whitko (60-18) and Rossville (42-39) but lost to host Maconaquah (58-23) and Lewis Cass (51-30).
Jon Humes finished 5-0 on the day with four pins at 152 pounds, and Chevy Teeter also recorded four pins at 160.
Seth Hoffman finished 3-2 with three pinfalls at 126, as did Jacob Eherenman at 132. Joseph Irons finished 3-2 with a pair of pins at 182, and Isaac Lowe and Ian Becker were also 3-2 on the day with one win each by fall at 195 and 220, respectively. Luis Castillo earned a pair of pinfall wins at 138 pounds, and Haylee Brown went 3-2 at 113.
The Vikings will host Manchester Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.
