Wawasee Sports Wrap: Dec. 2
Wrestling
For the third week in a row, the Wawasee wrestling team stood tall as an invitational champion. And for the third time in a row, the team went undefeated in doing so.
At Saturday’s LaPorte Super Duals, Wawasee steamrolled all five opponents, including the final round against perennial state power and preseason No. 7-ranked Merrillville, 41-25, to claim the title. To get there, Wawasee beat Lafayette Jeff 48-18, LaPorte 44-18, Knox 66-12 and Hammond 63-12.
Undefeated wrestlers for the Warriors include Jace Alexander at 106, Chris Schuller at 120, Geremia Brooks at 132, Garrett Stuckman at 138 and Elisha Tipping at 285.
Wawasee (15-0) will compete in its first solo dual Thursday at home against Goshen in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup.
Freshman Basketball
The freshman girls basketball team defeated Westview, 25-21, while the boys lost to Westview, 26-23, Saturday morning at Westview.
Autumn Turner led the girls win with eight points while Abby Steiner and Ava Harker each added five points. The boys had Kameron Salazar drop in 11 points and Justin Castro chipped in six points.
The Lady Warriors (2-1) will visit Goshen Thursday while the Warriors (3-1) will visit Elkhart Christian Tuesday evening.
