Leesburg fourth, fifth and sixth grade students pose outside the theater after enjoying the film with their classmates and teachers.

WARSAW — On Wednesday, Nov. 22, Leesburg Elementary fourth, fifth and sixth grade went to see the movie “Wonder.” This trip was made possible through the help of incredible donations from Maple Leaf Farms, Plain Township Fire Department and North Pointe Cinemas.

Recently, students at Leesburg read the book “Wonder,” which deals with a student with a craniofacial deformity. The story follows the life of August Pullman, who enters school for the first time after being homeschooled by his mother. Throughout the book, readers witness the hardships August has to face in regards to his peers and the negative things that are said about the way he looks. August has a tremendous attitude and heart. Through his kind attitude, he captures the hearts of all those he surrounds himself with.

The students of Leesburg Elementary talk a great deal about empathy and kindness. This was a great chance for our students to watch a book come to life and learn even more from the importance of being kind. We want our students to know that one act of kindness can make a major impact in someone’s life.
