Perkins Sentenced For Dealing Methamphetamine
WARSAW — A Warsaw woman has been sentenced after admitting to dealing methamphetamine in July.
Amanda Perkins, 28, Warsaw, was sentenced today, Nov. 27, in Kosciusko Circuit Court for a single charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a level 5 felony of a lesser included level 2 felony.
On July 18, Warsaw narcotics officers learned of drug activity coming from South Bend to the Warsaw area.
Officers interviewed Perkins about the drug activity and learned that a handgun was left in her car from a drug dealer from South Bend. With legal consent, narcotic officers searched the car and located a Smith & Wesson revolver. During the search officers also located over 15 grams of heroin, crystal meth and marijuana.
Narcotics officers interviewed Perkins again and learned that she had just sold .3 grams of heroin to her father at a local hotel. Narcotic officers obtained a search warrant for the hotel room and located David Everly, 53, Warsaw, at the hotel. There they seized .2 grams of heroin and learned that Everly had used the remaining amount. Several guns and ammunition were seized from the hotel room. Perkins’s two children, ages 10 and 7, were also at the hotel. Perkins admitting to dealing drugs out of the hotel room.
Further investigation found that there were additional drugs at Perkins’s residence. Undercover officers set up a buy at the residence and purchased one ounce of crystal meth at the residence. Immediately following the buy, with a search warrant in hand, narcotics officer searched the residence and took Denzell Parahams, 21, South Bend and Ethan Perkins, 28, Warsaw, into custody. More crystal meth was located and over $1,000 cash was on located on Parahams.
Judge Michael Reed acknowledged Perkins’s willingness to corporate, accepting her plea agreement to drop the charge of dealing methamphetamine to a level 5 felony from its initial level 2 status. Reed sentenced Perkins to four years at the Kosciusko County Jail with eligibility to serve the sentence on work release. Perkins will receive 131 days jail time served.
Ethan Perkins, Everly and Parahams are still awaiting sentencing.
