NorthWood Basketball: Panthers Stifle St. Joe
NAPPANEE – The NorthWood boys basketball team notched its second straight convincing win to open the season Saturday night.
The host Panthers were in control from start to finish in defeating South Bend St. Joseph 52-32 in the Panther Pit.
NorthWood, which opened its season with a 17-point home win over Lakeland Wednesday night. led 11-5 after the opening quarter. Coach Aaron Wolfe’s team was up 27-13 at halftime and led 43-20 at the end of the third period.
Kaden Gongwer had a big night to pace the offense for the Panthers. Gongwer canned a game-high 19 points in the win.
The duo of Luke Holland and Nick Bean each scored eight points for NorthWood. Brad Delio had six points for the winners.
Caleb Lung led the Panthers with six rebounds. Gongwer had five caroms.
St. Joe shot just 8-45 from the field in the game, including 3-17 in the opening half.
Brady Powers led the Indians, who were playing their first game, with 10 points.
NorthWood won the junior varsity game 52-29. Trent Edwards and Ben Vincent each scored 13 points to lead the NorthWood JV team.
NorthWood (2-0) plays at Triton Friday night. St. Joe (0-1) hosts Concord Tuesday night.
