Holiday Films At The Warsaw Community Public Library
By Melissa Chapman, Cataloging Supervisor.
Whether you are a Griswold fan or prefer the retro allure of Bedford Falls, there are certain movies that just make the holidays complete. Everyone has their go-to film for the holidays and Warsaw Community Public Library has an ample amount of films to satisfy the holiday spirit in all of us. I have listed a few that might be of interest.
If you’re looking for a classic heartwarming Christmas tale, try “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, The Bishop’s Wife”, “Polar Express”, “White Christmas”, or “Christmas in Connecticut”. These feel good classics are a great way to get you into the holiday spirit. They are certain to make you laugh, cry and feel all warm inside.
If you prefer a comedy, there are plenty to choose in this genre. “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, “Christmas with the Kranks”, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “A Christmas Story,” “Jingle All the Way”, and “Elf” to name a few. These are all entertaining films that are laugh out-loud funny and one cannot help but relate to all the crazy antics that go on during the holiday season.
If you are interested in kid/family friendly holiday films you may like “It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Elmo Saves Christmas”, and “The Original Christmas Classics”, which includes “Frosty the Snowman”, “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” and “The Little Drummer Boy”. Watching these films are an excellent way to spend time with your children or grands while eating Christmas cookies and drinking hot chocolate.
Are you interested in something a little more grown up for the holidays? “Fred Claus”, “Die Hard”, “Four Christmases”, “Batman Returns” and the horror film “Krampus” might hold your interest. These movies are good for a date night with your significant other while you are snuggling on the couch in front of the Christmas tree or fireplace.
There are even holiday films that have sequels or been remade. “Santa Clause”, “Home Alone”, and “Bad Santa” all have sequels, while “Miracle on 34th Street”, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas and “A Christmas Carol” are all remakes. Try one of these if you haven’t before.
WCPL even has some newer holiday films. “Love the Coopers”, “Almost Christmas”, “The Night Before”, and “Office Christmas Party.” We have a holiday film for everyone so make sure you stop in and see us during the holidays.
