Wawasee Wrestling Invite: Warriors On Top Again
SYRACUSE – For the second weekend in a row, Wawasee has swept the field to win a wrestling invitational. On Saturday, the Warriors took care of business five times to run unblemished at the Wawasee November Super Duals.
Wawasee ran through all five rounds of the tourney, opening with a 70-6 drubbing of Columbia City, then beating Warsaw for the second time in as many weeks, 67-9. It’s closest match came in round three against Eastside, 46-34, but recoveries against Marion, 49-28, and West Noble, 51-27, closed the deal for the title. Wawasee won its first title of the season last week at Warsaw, also going 5-0, to run its current season mark to 10-0.
Undefeated performers for the Warriors included Jace Alexander at 106, Braxton Alexander at 132, Geremin Brooks at 138, Raymon Torres at 160 and Alex Castro at 182.
Warsaw went 1-4, picking up its lone team win against Columbia City in a 60-24 result. The Tigers lost to West Noble 45-36, Columbia City 60-24 and Marion 65-16.
Grayson Drudge and Andrew Owens were standout performers for the Tigers, Drudge at 182 went 4-1, including two pins and a 16-2 major decision. Owens went 4-1 in the 170-pound class with a pin. Brock Heuber at 195 and Jose Grimmett at 145 both were 3-2 for Warsaw.
Wawasee will take its hot streak to next Saturday’s LaPorte Invite while Warsaw will jump into a Northern Lakes Conference dual Tuesday at Elkhart Memorial.
