WCHS Honored During Indiana Dual Credit Ceremony
WARSAW — Warsaw Community High School was recently honored at the state level during the 2017 Indiana Dual Credit Recognition Ceremony. The inaugural celebration recognized WCHS’s efforts to provide Indiana students with access to and success in dual credit courses.
This year, schools achieving a minimum of a 30 percent success rate for the 2015-2016 school year were honored. A total of 130 schools were recognized during the event.
“It was an honor to be an invited guest to represent Warsaw Community High School at the Nov. 6, inaugural celebration of Dual Credit excellence as recognized by Dr. Jennifer McCormick, superintendent of public instruction, Ivy Tech Community College, and Vincennes University,” states WCHS Principal Troy Akers. “I was joined by Warsaw Area Career Center Director/Principal Ronna Kawsky, and WCS Chief Accountability Officer Dani Barkey. Our students owe much credit to Mrs. Kawsky through the added Dual Credit curricular offerings and partnerships that she has made available to our students. WCHS was honored by achieving the minimum of a 30 percent success rate for the 2015-16 school year. WCHS actually achieved a 46 percent success rate for that school year. It was truly a very special day in the statehouse!”
Though WACC and WCHS are honored to have received the bronze recognition, Kawsky notes both are working toward even higher levels of success. “While we love the recognition at bronze level, out students are excelling and taking more and more rigorous dual credit courses,” explained Kawsky. “We have seen enrollment increases and believe that next year silver is looking very attainable.”
