Nita May Brickel
Nita May Brickel, Winona Lake, passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, at the age of 89.
She was born Dec. 1, 1927 in Newcastle, Pennsylvania to Clyde Thomas Bookamer and Jessie Joanna (Lindsey) Bookamer. On June 19, 1948 she was married to Bruce Allen Brickel, who passed away on June 11, 2015.
Nita has been a resident of Kosciusko County, since 1969 where she was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. Nita was very involved in her church home and enjoyed singing in the choir.
She had attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee for two years, and received an honorary bachelor’s degree. Nita, along with her husband Bruce owned and operated Lakeview Laundromat in Winona Lake for many years. She kept active throughout her life and enjoyed serving as a member in the Kosciusko County Auxilliary, and supporting missionaries around the world for years. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her family and friends.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Doug (wife Donna) Brickel (Daytona Beach, Florida); Don (wife Sandy) Brickel (Franklin, Tennessee); Duane Brickel and fiancée Yvette Lamy (Melissa, Texas); and her daughter: Lynn (husband Dale) Lehman (Fort Wayne, Indiana). Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; one brother: Wesley (wife Dorothy) Bookamer (Akron, Pennsylvania); and her twin-sister: Nola Caraway (Johnson City, Tennessee).
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson Stephen, daughter-in-law Rosie Linda Brickel, sister Joyce Brandt and her brother Richard Bookamer.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
