Vera B. Plattner
Vera B. Plattner, 104, died at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Oakwood Manor in Oshkosh, Wis.
She was born Dec. 13, 1912, in South Whitley, a daughter of Adam and Lesta (Geist) Lehman. She graduated from South Whitley High School in 1931.
On December 24, 1935, she was united in marriage to Merl O. Plattner. They made their home in Columbia City where he served as the Clerk of the Circuit Court and she was his deputy. Vera also worked with her husband in the Plattner Abstract and Insurance Company until his death on November 20, 1956. She was a beautician for 36 years and owned and operated Vera’s Beauty Shop for 30 years.
Vera joined Grace Lutheran Church in 1955, was a 50 year member of Delta Theta Tau sorority and belonged to several bridge clubs.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jone (John) Oman of Oshkosh Wis.; two grandchildren, Jane (Katrina Dwinell) Oman and John D. (Andrea) Oman; three great grandchildren, Mary, Jack and Sam Oman; and nieces, Janis (Jack) Davis and Carole (Page) Liggett.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Merritt Lehman and Carl Lehman; and an infant sister.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation 10 a.m. to 11a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
