Rosanna “Jean” Long Nolen
Rosanna “Jean” Long Nolen, 98, of Elkhart, died Thursday morning, Nov. 9, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Valley View.
She was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Elkhart to Harry Pomrene Kidder and Marie Syson.
She married Harry Elba Long in 1941. Kenneth Earl Nolen became her husband in 1974. He died in 1981.
Rosanna is survived by her son, Larry (Eva) Long of Elkhart; two grandchildren, John (Julie) Long and Michelle Long, both of Las Vegas; two nieces; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a brother.
With the help of Rev. Ivan French at McCoy Baptist Church, she accepted Christ as her Savior in 1954.
Rosanna worked for C.G. Conn for 13 years then later worked for Family Children’s Center in Mishawaka and also was a nanny in North Liberty. In Chicago she worked for the Florence Krittenton Home, and for the National Veteran’s Family Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
In approximately 1968, she returned to high school and received her GED and then took the Nurse Aide Training Program in South Bend. After retiring in 1970 from Elkhart General Hospital as a nurse’s aide, she worked in private nursing.
In January 2009, she was admitted to a nursing home where she remained until her death. The family appreciates the loving care she received during that time.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Saturday, Nov. 11, at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen. Pastor Toby Kidder will officiate.
