Merrill J. Yoder
Merrill J. Yoder, 101, Mishawaka, formerly of Wakarusa, died at midnight Thursday, Nov. 9, at the home of his daughter in Mishawaka. He was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Elkhart County to Harvey & Eliza (Newcomer) Yoder. He married Fay Marie (Wenger) Yoder on Sept. 5, 1937, in Fort Wayne, and she died Feb. 20, 2012.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise (Ken) Leach, Mishawaka, sons, Roger (Jan) Yoder, Black Canyon City, Arizona, Dennis (Shirley) Yoder, Wakarusa, 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Miriam Wenger, Goshen.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, foster daughter, Faye Hackman, grandson, Shane Yoder, sister, Emma Hart and brothers, Paul, Ivan, Earl, Carl & David Yoder.
Merrill was a 1934 graduate of Wakarusa High School and a member of Olive Mennonite Church. He was retired from Construction.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service on Monday, Nov. 13, all at Olive Mennonite Church, 61081 CR 3, Elkhart. Burial will follow at Olive (East) Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Olive Mennonite Church for Missions.
