KLA Learns About City, County And State Government
KOSCIUSKO — Kosciusko Leadership Academy recently met at the Warsaw Police Department. The topic of the session was city, county and state government. The cadets heard from different representatives from different levels of government.
The first speaker was Staci Young from Mayor Thallemer’s office. She discussed current and future projects in Warsaw. She discussed the efforts to make Warsaw a more bicycle friendly community and the different projects that are ongoing to make that happen. Young also discussed with the cadets that importance of making the community more appealing to attract new residents.
The second speaker of the morning was Kosciusko County Councilwoman, Joni Truex. Joni discussed with the cadets the different roles and responsibilities of Kosciusko County government commissioners, council and departments. She discussed the current state of affairs in the county and what local seats will be open in the upcoming local election.
The third speaker of the morning was State Representative Curt Nisly. Representative Nisly discussed what it is to be a state representative and the different committees that he serves on. He discussed with the cadets the accomplishments he is most proud of from the past three years. He talked about how he had to rethink and reconsider what he felt were priorities to better reflect those of the public that he represents.
KLA is a not for profit organization devoted to serving Kosciusko County by encouraging leaders and future leaders to dream and create a better community through white paper projects.
