John Henry Halt
John Henry Halt, 68, Columbia City, passed away peacefully at his home at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. He had been in declining health.
He was born July 10, 1949 in Fort Wayne a son of the late Walter Henry and Florence A. (Scott) Halt. His formative years were spent in Larwill. He graduated from Larwill High School in 1967.
On July 6, 1969 he was united in marriage to Andrea Dayle Cleland. They have always made their home in Columbia City.
A career-long truck driver, John drove for Twin Transportation, Central Cities, and TRM – Columbia City where he had 12 years of service.
Mechanically inclined, he enjoyed construction, furniture woodworking and working on old vehicles. He had a knack for rigging to solve construction material handling. He also liked to attend area auctions, antique tractor and car shows.
Surviving are his wife, Andrea; two daughters, Julie A. (Tige) Longenbaugh, Columbia City and Jodie Eaken, Columbus; six grandchildren; a great-grandson and two sisters, Nancy (Merle) Tooker, Shipshewana and Sally Moore, Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a son, John H. Halt, Jr. and two sisters, Jo Ellen Donaghy and Sue Ellen Platter.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home Columbia City. Burial will be at the South Park Annex Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
