North Webster Library News
NORTH WEBSTER — If you know a Spanish-speaking or bilingual child, the youth department at the North Webster Community Public Library has a nice selection of children’s books written in Spanish. A larger selection of books in Spanish, as well as other languages, is also available on TumbleBook, an online library of children’s books accessible with a North Webster Library card through the library’s website at www.nweb.lib.in.us.
Library cards are available free of charge to children and their families living in Tippecanoe Township. Evergreen cards from other libraries can also be used at the North Webster Library.
Since children will be busy trick-or-treating Tuesday, Oct. 31, there will be no Crafts & Stories or Paws-To-Read events in the youth department that day.
In the adult services department, Indiana author Richard Rose will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, with his latest novel, “The Gumshoe,” a mystery set in 1947 Chicago about a private investigator who runs afoul of corrupt politicians, mobsters and a trigger-happy femme fatale trying to prove that his best friend’s suicide was actually murder. Rose, who is originally from Kokomo, served as a former vice president of a Chicago investment firm. Rose’s writing career includes novels, short stories and screenplays. He will be signing copies of his new book, which will be available for purchase.
The library’s dance exercise class, Let’s Move, continues to meet at 6 p.m. every Thursday. The group has lots of fun while dancing for fitness to a variety of music along with learning new dance steps. The class is free and suitable for adults of all ages.
The Friends of the Library will be selling homemade cookie and soup mixes, packaged in gift jars, and vintage, three-piece serving centerpieces at the North Webster Lioness Club Holiday Shopping Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, in the North Webster Community Center.
Don’t forget the Friends of the Library book sale, which is taking place this weekend, Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 26-28. This event is also being held at the North Webster Community Center. Hundreds of gently used, good-quality books, movies, music CDs and puzzles will be on sale at bargain prices. Sale hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.
