Silver Lake Town Council Approves 2018 Budget
SILVER LAKE — Wednesday, Oct. 25, the Silver Lake town council held a budget adoption meeting for the 2018 proposed budget.
The 2018 budget shows a 15 percent overall increase from the 2017 budget. The 15 percent increase is to the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund as well as the Economic Development Fund.
New laws enacted this year regarding the use of the Motor Vehicle Highway Fund require that half of the state revenue received must be used for street paving purposes. The revenue received from the state has increased around 12 percent.
The town of Silver Lake has been working on a bridge/sidewalk project north on SR 15. The engineering phase has been completed and necessary permits have been obtained for this project. They are hoping to have this completed in 2018. The town is using economic development revenue as part of the funding.
Council members Phil Shalley and Dana Owens, Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley and Council President Chad Miner were in attendance.
Shalley is a member of the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department and therefore had to abstain from the vote on the budget proposal. Owens moved to approve the proposed 2018 budget, and the motion was approved.
