Using Overdrive
Milford Public Library’s children’s department clerk Shari Lambert has downloaded e-books and audiobooks from digital e-lending service OverDrive since the Milford Public Library began using the service in 2013.
Here’s why Lambert thinks you should use OverDrive for free with your library card: “You can access it 24/7 and read a wide variety of books and audiobooks, many not found in this library … Since some books aren’t available at the library to borrow, it’s often faster and easier to download them through OverDrive, where many copies can be found.”
Lambert also thinks OverDrive is convenient for teens and kids. “Teens are connected to their devices 24/7 so it’s easier for them [to borrow digital titles] and that way they’re getting their reading done. For me, it’s also a way to keep kids occupied while parents are doing something. They can still be beside their parent but be reading. [Parents] don’t have to carry in a load of books for kids to look for.”
If you’re interested in getting started with OverDrive, go to cidc.overdrive.com or download the OverDrive app on your device. Library clerks can show you how to use OverDrive on your device in person. Set up an appointment or ask questions by calling (574) 658-4312.
