Alice M. Mooi
Alice M. Mooi, 87, Rochester, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 1:42 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at Wynnfield Crossing Senior Living Community in Rochester. She was born on April 29, 1930 to the late Herbert and Lillian Brook Asmus. On Oct. 19, 1957, Alice married Henry “Hank” Mooi in LaPorte. Hank passed away Sept. 9, 2017.
Alice graduated from LaPorte High School, received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ball State University, and spent her life as an educator. She taught in both the LaPorte County Schools as well as the Eastern Pulaski Elementary School. Altogether, Alice taught for 36 years. She was a member of the Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac where she was active with the Children’s Choir and had served as an organist. She enjoyed traveling as well as music, especially playing the piano.
Alice will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include: her brother, Charles (Kay) Asmus, her sister-in-law, Nancy Asmus; several great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Donald Asmus
Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Winamac with Pastor Dave Marty officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the church.
Burial will take place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Winamac.
