CLAYPOOL — Business was once again slow at the monthly Claypool Town Council. Before the council approved their last month minutes, President Niki Miller read the town’s 2018 budget.
The budget is as follows:
- Rainy Day Fund: $2,630
- General Fund: $151,395
- Roads and Streets: $14,000
- Motor Vehicle Highway: $27,353
- Cumulative Capital Improvements: $3,500
- Total: $198, 878
This budget will be approved during a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
It was announced at the Sept. 18 meeting that Claypool Town Marshal Dalis Owens had resigned his position. Effective Aug. 30, Ben Sanders was appointed town marshal. Sanders is a former reserve officer for the town of Claypool.
In his first action, Sanders has spoken with the fire department and introduced a burn ordinance. The ordinance was passed to the council and town attorney John Barrett for review.
Carried over from last month’s meeting, clerk-treasurer Pat Warner contacted Advanced Disposal about recycling options per Kelsey Wertenberger’s request. The cost for recycling would total $5 additional per month per household for the entire town, with recycling pick-up being twice a month.
“I don’t think we need to add more charges,” commented council member Liz Heiman, pointing out the the town already offers a place for residents to drop off recyclable materials.
After a brief discussion, the board decided against contracting a recycling pick-up.
