COLUMBIA CITY — Schools in Whitley County enacted security measures late Monday morning after police received a report of a person with a gun in a neighborhood.
Around 11 a.m. Monday, Columbia City Police received a report about a man walking along Line Street carrying what appeared to be a blue AR-15-style rifle. According to police, the man was wearing a dark hoodie.
Whitley County Consolidated Schools Superintendent Pat O’Connor told NewsChannel 15 that as a result of the report, Eagle Tech Academy, Mary Raber Elementary, and the Columbia City High School were placed under lockdowns.
Police, along with deputies from the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Indiana State Police, conducted a “thorough search” of the area. It was learned that a man had been carrying a blue paintball gun, Columbia City Police said.
Police found no threat to the schools or safety concerns.
