Pierceton Fire Hosts Annual Open House
PIERCETON — The Pierceton community had a little fun Friday night as Pierceton Fire Department hosted its annual Fire Prevention Open House with a little bit of fun for everyone in Pierceton.
Guests received a passport and stamps as they traveled around the stations. They started by receiving a plastic fire hat, the passport and signing a banner that PFD will hang on the wall following the nights events. Visitors proceeded through the stations making first aid kits, learning about child safety seats, CPR and about tobacco’s effects on the lungs. Also among the stations were the FPD partners, the Bowen Center and the Red Cross. “It helps them take personal ownership of the firehouse, you know,” stated FPD EMS Captain Alicia Elder about the signs. “They come and see the signs year after year.”
After the main booths, children were able to participate in some more interactive stations such as an obstacle course, bounce house and a smoke house. In the obstacle course, participants were able to get hands-on experiences with firefighter equipment. While running the course, children were able to “extinguish” cardboard fire. “They learn how to go through a house on fire properly to avoid inhaling the smoke,” explained Elder. Most of the stations helped children learn safety technics during a fire.
At the end of the stations, families would visit a booth and learn how to plan for a fire, emphasizing the importance of two escape routes.
