Wilfred E. Wood
Wilfred E. “Woody” Wood, Leesburg, passed away at his residence at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at the age of 73.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1944 in Elkhart County to Wilma (Fox) Wood and Marshall Wood. On June 23, 1962 he was married to Betty (Byrer) Wood, who survives.
Woody was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County where he was a 1962 graduate of Atwood High School. He worked for 31 years as a mechanic at the Leesburg Grain Elevator, retiring in 2011. He was also a volunteer at the Plain Township Fire Department for 27 years. He was a great husband, family man, dedicated worker and volunteer and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Betty Wood, Leesburg; two sons: Douglas Wood; and Steve (wife Tanya) Wood, both of Leesburg; and his daughter: Lisa (husband Brian) Marshall, Leesburg. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three brothers: Devon (wife Kathy) Wood, Leesburg; Lavon (wife Elaine) Wood, Pierceton; Robert (wife Edna) Wood, Warsaw; and his sister: Linda (husband Larry) Warren, Lansing, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carol Lidgard, and his great-granddaughter, Harper Weaver.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.
His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Reverend Ben Keckler. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
