Experience And Explore Chautauqua Oct. 15-17
SYRACUSE — Join Chautauqua-Wawasse for a three day excursion. Chautauqua is based on four pillars: art, education, recreation and religion. By attending this event participants have the opportunity to experience all four.
The event will kickoff at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, with a relaxing and educating tour around Lake Wawasee aboard the SS Lilypad. The tour guide will be Ann Garceau from the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum. Garceau will be sharing “Then & Now” on Indiana’s largest natural lake.
Come hear James Alexander Thom at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16. Thorn is a historical novelist. In 2014 he was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. Thom was a newspaper and magazine journalist and lecturer at the Indiana University School of Journalism before becoming a full-time author.Thom has written a number of historical novels featuring Native American characters.
Enjoy lunch at The Pier Restaurant, followed by an afternoon session at 2 p.m. presented by John Andrews. Andrews is director of Midwest Development for the non-government organization Love Justice, formerly Tiny Hands International, which focuses on human trafficking intervention.
While serving in a full time pastoral roll, Andrews had a former student introduce him to Love Justice in 2009. He continued in pastoral ministry while serving as an advocate with Love Justice. While serving on four continents and with numerous local ministries and missions, he has developed a “heart for the least of these.”
Dinner and a Design-a-Sign painting workshop will be at 6 p.m.
Speaker and author Phillip Gulley will speak at 9 a.m. opening Tuesday’s session. Gulley is a Quaker pastor, writer and speaker from Danville. He has written 21 books including the Harmony series recounting life in the eccentric Quaker community of Harmony and the best-selling Porch Talk essay series.
He is currently working on his 22nd book titled Unlearning God in which he describes the process of spiritual growth, especially the re-interpretation of the earliest principles most have learned about God.
Gulley will be speaking during the morning and afternoon sessions. Lunch will be provided by The Pier Restaurant with the afternoon session starting at 2 p.m.
Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by entertainment provided by Main on Main Improv!
Guests of the event can purchase a 3-day ticket including meals for $125; Monday or Tuesday only is $75 per day and Sunday ticket for just $10.
