Leesburg Elementary Hosts Hispanic Heritage Celebration
LEESBURG — On Friday, Sept. 29, Leesburg hosted its fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Leesburg families with Hispanic roots brought in traditional foods, drinks, and desserts to share together in a lively convivio (fellowship) in the school cafeteria.
Over 100 students participated in the event, staying to taste the traditional foods and preparing a showcase of projects related to heritage for the families and school to enjoy. Topics for the projects included foods, family celebrations, geography, famous Hispanic biographies, legends, Latin American history and application of cultural studies to their own stories.
Also, several Leesburg Elementary students performed traditional Mexican dances in vibrant costume. School staff and parents were proud of their students’ hard work and were thankful for their cultural contributions to the community.
