Valley Releases Reason For Football Coach Moriarty’s Suspension
AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation sent a press release clarifying the reason for head football coach Stephen Moriarty’s suspension from the program Wednesday afternoon.
The release states that the event in question took place during halftime of the Vikings’ game at Rochester Friday night and that “Moriarty threw two crates that contained water bottles. One of the crates ricocheted off the wall and came in contact with a player. The player did not play the second half as a result, but has since been cleared to play during the next football game.” The school corporation will not release medical information related to students, including the player’s name, jersey number and position on the team.
The Valley school corporation’s board of trustees will meet to discuss the incident in an executive session on Thursday to determine “an appropriate consequence as a result of what happened.” Executive sessions are private and not open to the public.
TVHS assistant football coach and former co-head coach of the Vikings Jeff Shriver has been appointed to take over the program until a resolution has been reached regarding Moriarty, who was hired on as head coach during a Jan. 16 school board meeting.
