John P. Hudkins
John P. Hudkins, 74, Rochester, passed away at 11:55 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at his residence.
On July 6, 1943, John Phillip Hudkins was born in Fulton County. He was a treasured son of William Judson and Mildred I. Brooker Hudkins. Growing up he shared his childhood with five brothers and a sister. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1961. Following high school he continued his education at Eastern New Mexico University.
On Feb. 20, 1963 in Rochester John married Phyllis Mae Bailey. From their union came four wonderful children. Later they were divorced.
In Gatlinburg, Tenn. on July 6, 1999, John and Dottie Damron were married. They enjoyed 18 years of life’s adventures. The Indiana winter brought on their arrival to Port St. Lucie, Fla. where they wintered for more than a decade.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dottie; two daughters: Laura Stoner and husband Craig of South Bend, Cathi Morrison and husband Joey of Rochester; two sons: John A. Hudkins and wife Shannon of Rochester; Jason Hudkins and wife Amanda of Rochester; step children: Doug Mayhew and wife Michelle, Duane Mayhew and wife Sandy, Danita Spangler and husband Dan, all of Warsaw; 15 grandchildren: Zach Clevenger, Allison Hudkins, Alyssa Shepherd, Brendan Hudkins, Chad Hudkins, Ashlynn Hudkins, Arika Hudkins, Ace Hudkins, A.J. Hudkins, Bailey Hudkins, Kyle Coplen, Brenna Smith, Zachary Miller, Matthew Miller, Tara Wilkow; 13 great grandchildren; sister Mary Ellen George and husband Dick of Mesa, Ariz.: two brothers: Richard Hudkins and companion Jean, Virgil Hudkins and wife Sue, all of Rochester; brother & sister-in-laws: Carl Damron, Lottie and Ed Smoker, Ellen and Jim Conley, all of Rochester, Sue and Marty Shuey of Rensselaer; special friends “The Amigos”: Angel, Bob, Al and Patti; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and two companions: Mitz a black and tan Dachshund, and B.A. a Tortoiseshell long hair feline.
Preceding John in death are his parents; three grandchildren: Brooke Miller, Jered Morrison, JP Hudkins; three Hudkins brothers: Don, Jerry, George; and the Damron sister and brother- in-laws: Judy, Annie, Bea Eddie, Dewey, Johnny, Buril, Luther and Clifford; and his treasured canine companion Duchess, the Dalmation.
Pastor Gretchen Snyder will officiate services. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
