Upcoming Events At The North Webster Library
NORTH WEBSTER — With all the catastrophic weather in the news lately, you may be wondering how weather is forecasted and monitored. Learn how by touring the local National Weather Service Station with the North Webster Community Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 5. The tour leaves from the library at 1:45 p.m. and will travel by carpool to the weather station located on SR 13, north of North Webster. Weather station personnel will explain about weather forecasting, how watches and warnings are issued, weather technology, and much more. To go on the tour, you must signup in advance at the library’s Circulation Desk. Minors must be accompanied by a parent.
Need a midday break? Drop in the library for a free adult movie matinee 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3. Showing will be a classic 1938 romantic comedy about a man of humble beginnings who is torn between his free-thinking lifestyle and the traditions of his fiancée’s wealthy family. The movie is unrated and runs 1 hour 35 minutes. Bring your own beverages and enjoy the free popcorn.
Registration is currently underway for the library’s next Coffee and Canvas 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Karla Hayden will provide instruction on painting a fall harvest scene. The cost is $18 and includes an 11×14 canvas, painting supplies, coffee and cookies. Pre-registration and payment is due by Oct. 12. No special talent is needed, and it’s a fun way to create a fall painting for your home or as a gift.
Space is still available in the Beginning Genealogy Course that starts 10:30 Thursday, Oct. 5 and continues Oct. 12, 19 and 26. This four-class course is free, but pre-registration is required. Sign up at the Circulation Desk or call 574-834-7122.
Therapy dog Echo returns to the library every Tuesday in October from 4 to 5 p.m., starting Oct. 3. Children can sign up for a 15 minute reading session with Echo. Reading sessions are by appointment only with only four sessions available each Tuesday, so sign your child up early to secure an appointment. Also every Tuesday at 4 p.m. is Crafts and Stories when children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade can listen to stories while doing crafts. No registration is needed; just drop in.
Lapsit Story Time for babies and toddlers will continue throughout October every Tuesday and Friday at 11 a.m. Parents can sign up for either session and explore the joy of books and stories with their young children. Each 20 minute session is followed by playtime. It’s a great way to have fun with your child while fostering early literacy development.
