Grace Volleyball: Lancers Open Play At Olivet
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Grace’s volleyball team opened up play at the Olivet Nazarene Tournament on Friday.
The Lady Lancers (11-9), shorthanded due to a plethora of injuries, lost twice to Olivet Nazarene and St. Thomas.
Grace fell 3-1 to Olivet Nazarene in the opener. Grace’s lone set win was a 25-20 win in the second game.
The second set was the only one where Grace could generate a consistent attack. The Lady Lancers had 14 kills in the second game and never generated more than nine in any of the three other sets.
Savannah Hart led Grace’s offense with 11 kills, and Sara Miller had 21 digs. Caylie Teel tallied 13 digs, Emily Sharp had 12 digs, and Alexa Hill added 29 assists and 10 digs.
Grace led a 2-1 lead slip in its second match against St. Thomas, losing in five sets.
After losing the first set, Grace recovered with a 25-15 and 25-23 win in the next two sets. The Bobcats rebounded to force a tiebreaker with a win in the fourth set.
In the fifth set, Grace went ahead 7-5. STU rallied, however, pulling ahead to claim a 15-12 win which secured the match.
Teel and Hill both produced a double-double in the match. Teel had 23 digs and 12 kills, and Hill had 44 assists and 14 digs.
Sierra Smith paced Grace with 14 kills, and Sara Miller had a career high with 33 digs. Sharp added 12 digs, Naarah Foster had nine kills, and Gina Novotny chipped in 11 digs.
The Lady Lancers play Indiana Tech and St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday to wrap up the tournament.
