Mast, Hamlin Named NCCAA Players Of The Week
WINONA LAKE – Grace College had two athletes named NCCAA Player of the Week.
Grace’s women’s tennis phenom Emily Mast earned her fourth and fifth Player of the Week award while men’s soccer goalkeeper Kurt Hamlin was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Mast was named both the Crossroads League and the NCCAA National Player of the Week for the Lady Lancers.
Mast improved to 11-0 on the season in singles’ play, winning three more matches at No. 1 singles for the Lady Lancers.
She beat Taylor, Manchester and Marian in straight sets. Additionally, she went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles for Grace.
Mast was also honored the league’s Player of the Week on Sept. 11. She has been named the NCCAA National Player of the week two other times (Sept. 4, Sept. 11).
The Lady Lancers end the regular season this week. Grace plays at Bethel on Tuesday and at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday. The final home regular season game is Thursday against Indiana Tech at 3:30 p.m.
Hamlin made six crucial saves in Grace’s 1-0 double overtime win at Ohio Christian. He made one of the plays of the game in the second half, saving a penalty kick in the 71st minute to keep the game scoreless in regulation.
Hamlin has four shutouts this year for Grace as the team’s only goalkeeper.
The Lancers kick off Crossroads League play on Saturday, hosting Bethel at 7 p.m. at 1st Source Bank Field.
