Warsaw Soccer: Ladies Play To Tie At CGA
CULVER – The Warsaw girls soccer team played Culver Academy to a 2-2 tie Wednesday night.
Delaney Taylor scored in the opening half to put the Tigers ahead 1-0 at intermission. The host Eagles tied the game on a goal off a rebound after Chloe Snow made a spectacular save for Warsaw off a penalty kick opportunity.
Warsaw, ranked No. 20 in Class 3-A, took a 2-1 lead with about 13 minutes left in the match on a goal by Abby Steffensmeier. The hosts answered the challenge again though by getting a goal with about eight minutes left in the contest to forge the tie.
Steffensmeier and Anna Grill each had an assist for Warsaw, which is now 8-4-2 on the season.
“Tonight was a very frustrating night for our team,” said first-year Warsaw coach Jon Hoover. “We were a very undisciplined team tonight and we ran into a motivated Culver Academy squad. We played well in stretches, but we did not do the little things well and in the end it cost us a win.
“I give a lot of credit to Culver and their coaching staff. This was one of the first games that they had their entire roster healthy and available and they were firing on all cylinders. We are moving on. A win at Wawasee on Saturday would likely set up a conference championship game with Northridge next Thursday, so we are putting our energy into preparing for Wawasee.”
CGA won the junior varsity game 2-1. Jacier Nier had a goal for Warsaw and Katie Dailey stopped a penalty kick for the Tigers, who are now 4-6-1.
Warsaw will play at Wawasee in a Northern Lakes Conference match Saturday morning. The Tigers, who are 4-1 in the NLC, then play at Argos Tuesday night and host Northridge on Sept. 28 in their final league match.
