Wawasee Volleyball: Warriors Hold Off Wildcats
SYRACUSE – It wasn’t this close Saturday, but in the isolated setting of the spectator gym at Wawasee Monday night, Wawasee and Whitko went to the wire in varsity volleyball.
Wawasee and Whitko split the first four games of its showdown, the Lady Warriors then stacking up a 15-3 fifth game to take the dual. The two teams played Saturday in the Wawasee Invite’s consolation round with Wawasee winning in straight sets.
Wawasee claimed the first two games 25-21, 25-17 then Whitko stormed back to win games three and four 25-22, 25-20.
Peyton Rookstool had a huge game with 14 kills and seven aces to lead Wawasee (3-16), with Elizabeth Kleopfer adding 18 assists and 10 digs. Brooke Heche added 24 digs and a pair of aces, and Courtney Larson, Janae Hapner and Hannah-Marie Lamle all recorded five kills.
Whitko (1-19) did not have stats immediately available.
In the JV matchup, Wawasee took care of business 25-18, 25-15. Ava Rush had three aces and three kills, Kiaundra Olson aced five serves and Ashley Vazquez had eight helpers.
Wawasee will play at Warsaw Thursday while Whitko visits Wabash on Tuesday.
