Ruth R. Sauers
Ruth R. Sauers, 83, Columbia City, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor where she had been a resident since January.
She was born Sept. 12, 1934 in Wolf Lake, a daughter of Glen L. and Bertha E. (Winckler) Witmer. Her formative years were spent in Etna Township, Whitley County. She graduated from North Webster High School.
On May 27, 1953, she was united in marriage to Foy F. Sauers. They made their home on the Sauers family farm. Mr. Sauers died Aug. 4, 1990. In 1993 Ruth moved into Columbia City.
In addition to assisting her husband on the family farm, Ruth worked at Etna Troy School as an assistant cook for 13 years, United Telephone in Warsaw for several years, Penguin Point Franchise, Whitley County Memorial Hospital as a cook for ten years and Sidewalk Café for five years.
She was a member of American Legion Post #98 Auxiliary and affiliated with Etna United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles and loved to read.
Surviving relatives include a son, Steven S. Sauers of Larwill; four grandchildren: Sie Sauers of Wisconsin; Sara Sauers of Orlando, Fla.; Scot (Amy) Sauers of Orlando, Fla.; and Sheila Sauers of South Whitley; a great grandson, Eli Sauers; and two sisters, Gloria Miller and Glenna Werstler, both of Pierceton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Sauers and two sisters, Zelpha Ginter and Lucille Keck.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in West Etna Community Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
