Warsaw Schools Seek $78 Million For 2018 Budget
WARSAW — Millions of dollars seems like an imaginary number to most people, but when you’re talking about a corporation with 11 schools, it’s just an every day figure when it comes to the budget. Warsaw Community Schools reviewed the 2018 budget Tuesday night, Sept. 12, eyeing a $78 million budget.
Chief Financial Officer Brandon Penrod walked the WCS board through the annual budget in preparation for advertising. Throughout the presentation, Penrod emphasized that “the budget hasn’t changed much from the previous year.” The consistency in the budget should have no impact on the taxes.
The general budget was rounded out to just over $52 million while transportation received a $3.7 million budget, up about $100,000 from 2017. The rainy day fund is planned for $1.7 million.
Penrod noted that “they did not plan to spend 1.7 million, but (they) would just like to have the authority to do so so that (they) don’t have to come back if there is an emergency or if (they) get into construction — which (they) will — that has expenses (they) need to pay prior to parts of the sale or bond revenue.”
WCS, also, has scheduled to pay off some of its debt by 2020, freeing that money up to put back into funds.
The budget is up for advertising approval on Monday, Sept. 18 meeting with adoption taking place in October
