Russell Sammons — UPDATED
Russell Sammons, 80, Pierceton, passed away at 5:50 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, in Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. He was born Nov. 22, 1936 in Prestonsburg, Ky. to Jack Clark and Rosa (Sammons) McGuire.
He was united in marriage to Paulina Sammons on Sept. 3, 1959 in Prestonsburg, Ky. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army from Dec. 10, 1954 to Nov. 16, 1957 as a Specialist 3. He was a welder for several local manufacturing firms and a former employee for Quality Farm Fleet of Warsaw. He was a Union Steward and member of the U.A.W, a member of the Kosciusko County Democratic Party and former member of the Pierceton American Legion Post #256.
Survivors include his children: Gwendolyn (Kenneth) Bell of Atwood; Tina (Kenneth) Shepherd of Cromwell; and Shawn Sammons of Pierceton. Sisters: Brenda Akers of Prestonsburg, Ky.; and Linda Cox of Louisville, Ky. In addition, grandchildren Carrie Finken of Atwood; Carmen Finken of Warsaw; and Jory (Jessica) Baugher of Kimmel; and great grandchildren Monica Mullins, Kylie Cook, Chase Howard, Lilly Howard and Daxton Baugher survive. Along with his parents and a sister Daisy Riser, his wife Paulina preceded him on Oct. 1, 2004.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14 in McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Calling hours are scheduled from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday at the Funeral Chapel.
Gabe Tribbett will officiate the services. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton with Military Honors by Pierceton American Legion Post #256 and the U. S. Army Honor Guard.
