Max M. Putman
Max M. Putman, 77, formerly of Washington Township, Whitley County, died at 3:47 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 at Peabody Home, North Manchester after a year long battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 29, 1939 in Whitley County, Indiana a son of Paul and Bessie I. (Pequignot) Putman. His formative years were spent in Jefferson Township. He graduated from Jefferson Center High School and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, Missouri.
On Dec. 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Rosanne S. Shimer. They made their home in Kansas City Mo., Denver Co., Dallas TX and St. Louis, Mo. before moving to their farm in Jefferson Township in 1965.
In addition to farming, Max worked for IBM for 32 years and Do It Best Hardware for 10 years.
His memberships include Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, Columbia City Lodge #189 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine.
Surviving relatives include his wife of nearly 59 years, Rosanne; three children, Cheryl (Tom) Hayes of Huntington, Deborah (Michael Geiger) Goelz of Huntington and Susan (John) Smith of New Haven; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Louise Kearby of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Putman; an infant brother, Ned Putman; a sister, Margie Dimmick; and two brothers-in-law, Lester Dimmick and William Kearby.
The funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The burial will take place at a later date at Jefferson Chapel Cemetery.
