LaPorte Coaching Legend Schreiber Passes Away
LAPORTE – Former LaPorte baseball coaching legend Ken Schreiber died Friday.
The 83-year old Schreiber, the only baseball coach in Indiana history with 1,000 victories, passed away in Michigan City.
Schreiber, who retired during the 1998 season, coached the Slicers for 39 years. He compiled a 1,010-217 record with seven state championships.
The Slicers won 25 conference, 28 sectional, 18 regional and 11 semistate championships under Schreiber. He won state titles in 1967, 1971, 1976, 1982, 1987, 1990 and 1992.
Schreiber was a three-time National Coach of the Year. He was inducted into several Hall of Fames, including the National Baseball Hall of Fame and the National Federation Hall of Fame.
