Wawasee Sports Wrap: Sept. 2
Boys Soccer
Wawasee continued to play well out of conference, tying Huntington North 2-2 on Saturday.
Blayne Faught scored Wawasee’s first goal and Chris Pena notched the second, the latter tying the game in the second half.
Huntington North scored both its goals in the first half.
The Huntington JV came out on top in a 1-0 final.
Wawasee moved to 3-1-2 overall and will get back into Northern Lakes Conference play with a matchup against NorthWood on Thursday.
Girls Soccer
Wawasee’s lackluster play in the NLC continued Saturday as it fell 7-0 to Goshen in Syracuse.
Wawasee is minus-15 in goal differential in its two losses to Concord and Goshen.
The Lady Warriors (1-6, 0-2 NLC) will try to right the ship Wednesday out of conference when Whitko visits Warrior Field.
Boys Tennis
Wawasee won just one court all day in its three round robin matches at its home invitational.
The lone ‘W’ came at one doubles against Jimtown, where Brady Robinson and Jake Cowan bested Andrew Emigh and Tim Gardner 6-4, 1-6, 10-8. Jimtown won the other four courts in straight sets.
Wawasee lost 5-0 in straights to Westview and 5-0 in straights to Fairfield.
Westview’s 3-2 win over Fairfield in round one decided the invitational champion. Jimtown defeated Westview 3-2 in round two, but Westview and Fairfield each had 10 court wins, Jimtown nine and Westview’s 3-2 win over Fairfield was the tiebreaker.
Wawasee (3-7) will visit Goshen on Tuesday.
Football
Northridge’s JV beat Wawasee 23-13 Saturday morning in Syracuse.
Austin Baker had three catches for 58 yards and a score for the Warriors, the score covering 32 yards from Ethan Hardy. Gabe Moore added four catches for 83 yards.
Evan Gregory made 10 stops and a sack for the Wawasee defense.
Wawasee falls to 2-1 overall and will visit Concord next Saturday.
