Warsaw Track: Thacker Steps Down As Girls’ Coach
WARSAW – One of the area’s top girls track programs is looking for a new coach.
The highly-successful Warsaw girls track program is searching for a new leader after the recent resignation of Matt Thacker.
Thacker spent the 2017 season as coach of both the Warsaw girls and boys teams. He replaced Scott Erba on the girls side after Erba stepped down last October to pursue competing as a triathlete. Erba was the WCHS girls track coach for 13 years, amassing a 111-20 record. Erba also resigned as the girls cross country coach back in April of 2016.
Thacker, who is also the offensive coordinator for the Warsaw football team, will continue as the Warsaw boys track coach.
“When I stepped back and reflected upon the season I felt uncomfortable with not being able to give 100 percent to either side,” said Thacker via an email. “That’s not me and I did not want to hold back either program by continuing to coach both teams.”
Thacker guided the Warsaw girls program to its 12th straight Northern Lakes Conference title this past Spring. The ladies also won their 11th straight sectional crown and its sixth straight regional championship. The Warsaw program also went 7-0 again in NLC dual meets to push its winning streak to 60 in a row in league action.
Thacker has had some run the past nine years as the boys coach. Warsaw has won six straight sectional championships and four regional titles in the last seven years. The Tigers have also won 48 straight NLC meets, going undefeated in league competition for the past six seasons.
