Triton Sports Wrap: Aug. 31
Volleyball
Triton’s volleyball team earned a win in the minimum of games versus Hoosier North Athletic Conference and Sectional 51 foe Culver Community Thursday night, 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
Charlotte Morris finished with a team-high 16 kills, while Nicole Sechrist tallied a balanced seven kills, four aces and nine digs. Hannah Wanemacher set 18 assists and served four aces, while Sydney Musilli also recorded four aces, Lexia Hostrawser put down five kills, and Emma Ross dug up eight balls for the Lady Trojans (5-3, 2-0 HNAC).
Triton’s JV also won in three games, 24-25, 25-13, 25-15.
The Trojans host North Judson-San Pierre next Wednesday.
Tennis
Triton tennis topped Whitko on all five courts Thursday.
Gavin Greer earned a 7-6(9), 5-7, 10-8 super tiebreaker victory over Aidan Hoffman at three singles to complete the sweep, while Trevor Miller beat Nathan Smith, 6-4, 7-5 in a competitive two-setter at two singles.
Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler combined for a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bryce Tucker and William Farner at one doubles, Carter Kuntz put away Devon Akers 6-0, 6-1 at one singles, and Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules shut out Charlie French and Gray Wu 6-0, 6-0 at two doubles.
Triton’s JV also won its lone match with Whitko Thursday.
The Trojans host Bethany Christian Saturday.
Golf
The Lady Trojans won two matches but lost to Fairfield in a four-way meet at Pondview Golf Club Thursday.
Fairfield topped the meet standings with a 199, but Triton was close behind with a 204 score. North Miami carded 261, and Caston recorded an incomplete score with only three golfers at the meet.
Megan McFarland led Triton with a runner-up score of 48, while Alysha May, Kate Gardner and Delanie Groves turned in a trio of 52s for Triton. Whytnie Miller’s 58 was the Trojans’ (9-5) toss-out score.
Pacing Fairfield were Braylon Deeter’s low-medalist 47 and Emma Wynn’s 49.
Samantha Weidner shot 54 to pace North Miami, and Sydnie Smith carded 51 for Caston’s low score of the night.
Triton plays in a Hoosier North Athletic Conference four-way with North Judson, Know and West Central next Tuesday.
