LCA Sports Wrap: Aug. 31
Boys Soccer
Argos controlled the boys soccer match Thursday, taking it to LCA in a 3-0 final in Winona Lake.
The Dragons had 18 shots total and 13 on target, pressuring the Cougars defense all night. But it was a pair of penalty kicks and a bobble by Cougar goalkeeper Remington Swanson that did the home side in.
Argos converted its first penalty in the 30th minute. Minutes later, Swanson couldn’t handle a long, lofting shot that rolled into his own net. Just before half, Argos drew and converted its second penalty try of the half.
Swanson would make 10 saves for the Cougars, which managed just six shots in the match and four on goal.
LCA falls to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the Northern Indiana Soccer Conference. The Cougars will play again Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Elkhart Christian.
Volleyball
It was a heartbreaker for LCA, losing in five sets to visiting Granger Christian.
Granger took game one 28-26, only for LCA to take the net two 25-14, 25-15 to gain the edge. But Granger grabbed game four 25-22 and then withstood the fifth game 15-13 for the victory.
Cami Dahms had 13 kills, nine digs and six aces, Kyla Kohler had 26 assists and nine aces, Baylee Wiley had 11 kills and five digs, Carlie Wise added 12 digs and four aces, and Morgan Ziebarth had six digs.
LCA falls to 3-5 overall and will next visit Community Baptist on Tuesday.
