Triton Sports Wrap: Aug. 29
Boys tennis
Triton’s boys tennis team moved to 3-1 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference with a convincing 5-0 defeat of LaVille Tuesday.
John Gardner swept Zach Rutherford 0-0 at two singles, and Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler did the same to James Michaels and David Clayton at one doubles. Carter Kuntz put away Doug Cashen in two 6-1 sets at one singles.
Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules won their two doubles match by forfeit, and Trevor Miller won a forfeit at three singles for Triton (5-3, 3-1 HNAC).
Volleyball
Triton’s volleyball team battled back from a first-game loss to beat visiting Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe Knox, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21, at the Trojan Trench Tuesday.
Nicole Sechrist finished with 17 kills, while Abbey Viers and Charlotte Morris tallied eight kills apiece in a balanced attack by Triton. Sechrist also finished with 12 digs and three aces behind Tatum Hargrave’s four, while Hannah Wanemacher set 25 assists.
The Trojans moved to 4-3 overall with their first HNAC win.
Triton’s JV fell to Knox in two games, meanwhile, 25-9, 25-8.
Cross country
Triton’s boys cross country team lost a dual meet with Bremen, 20-41, while the Lady Trojans were unable to field a complete team at the meet in Bourbon Tuesday.
Pacing the Trojans was Josiah Paige with a 19:47 stop in third place behind winner Tyler Smith and runner-up Bobby Simons of Bremen. Ty Ferry placed fifth in 19:54 for Triton, while Russel Reichard was 11th, Brandon Kitch was 12th, and Brock Watkins placed 17th.
Baylee McIntire finished third for Triton in the girls race in 22:15 behind Emma Hundt and Katie Barnes, who finished first and second, respectively, for Bremen. Briana Wilhite was fifth in 23:57 for Triton.
