Cubs Baseball: Franchise Anticipating Another Record-Breaking Year
SOUTH BEND – For the fourth time in four years, the South Bend Cubs look to break the franchise single season attendance record at Four Winds Field. The team will also set a new single season per game average attendance record.
“After being named the Best Single-A Ballpark in June and welcoming our one millionth fan as a Chicago Cubs affiliate earlier this month, breaking the franchise attendance record would be the icing on the cake,” said South Bend Cubs Owner Andrew T. Berlin. “It all comes back to thrilling our guests with the best amenities, clean facilities and quality food. This is not a South Bend Cubs achievement, it’s a community accomplishment!”
In 2014, while still an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate, the team broke the attendance record for the first time in 20 years with 258,836 fans. In 2015, a first-year affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, the club broke the record again with 347,678 fans and, the bar was raised once again in 2016 with 350,803 fans flocking to Four Winds Field.
“Since Andrew Berlin purchased the team after the 2011 season, attendance has more than tripled and that would not be possible without our loyal fan base,” said South Bend Cubs President Joe Hart. “But we need our fans help to push past last year’s record breaking season.”
After 64 home games played, a total of 338,025 tickets have been sold, averaging 5,282 fans. Three games were lost due to inclement weather. Should the average hold, South Bend will break the attendance record on Friday, September 1, the final home game of the regular season.
Tickets for the final three games of the season are available at the South Bend Cubs Box Office, by calling (574) 235-9988 or ordering online at SouthBendCubs.com. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as all three games could sell out of seats and only lawn tickets would be available.
