NorthWood Sports Wrap: Aug. 26
The NorthWood volleyball team went 3-0 to claim the championship in the Prairie Heights Invitational.
The Panthers picked up a 25-11, 25-5 win over Woodlan.
Kennedy Wiens had nine kills and Haylee Pennington seven to lead the offense. Wiens and Whitney Gessinger each had five aces, while Wiens had seven digs and Courtney Lengacher six. Maddy Payne had a block and setter Lengacher 19 assists.
NorthWood defeated Elkhart Central 25-22, 25-9.
Wiens led the team with 10 kills and Pennington added seven. Gracie Clark led the team with three aces, while Wiens had seven digs and Pennington and Gessinger each had six. Payne had four blocks and Lengacher 21 assists.
The Panthers topped the hosts 25-15, 25-20.
Pennington powered down a team-high 10 kills and Wiens slammed seven. Gessinger had 14 digs and Clark and Wiens each added eight. Payne had three blocks and Lengacher 22 assists.
NorthWood plays at LaVille Tuesday night.
Girls Soccer
The NorthWood girls soccer team rolled to a 7-0 win at Bremen.
The Panthers outshot the hosts 21-5 with keeper Kira Robinson notching the shutout in the non-conference match.
Savannah Feenstra led the way for the winners with a pair of goals.
Also scoring for the Panthers were Avery Bontrager, Morgan Stickley, Kali Parisi, Neely Trenshaw and McKenzie Lincoln.
Bontrager also collected three assists in the contest. Cindy Barahona, along with Kali Parisi and Lexi Parisi each had one assist.
Robinson had five saves in goal for the Panthers.
NorthWood had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks in improving to 4-1. Bremen drops to 2-2.
NorthWood won the junior varsity contest 2-0.
NorthWood hosts Trinity Tuesday night.
Boys Soccer
The NorthWood boys soccer team dropped a 4-0 final to Concord.
The visiting Minutemen, who are ranked No. 10, scored three times in the opening half en route to the Northern Lakes Conference win.
NorthWood falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the NLC.
