Boys Soccer
Wawasee knocked off its second ranked team of the season Saturday night, upsetting Class 2-A No. 12 West Noble 3-1 at Warrior Field.
The Warriors did its damage all in the first half, getting an unassisted goal by Blaine Faught then a penalty kick conversion by Chris Pena and a strike from Ian Lambright, assisted by Pena.
Wawasee moves to 3-1 overall, adding the West Noble win to its résumé to go along with its season-opening upset of 1-A No. 18 Westview. West Noble, which has played a very difficult schedule to open its season, drops to 2-3 overall.
In the JV contest, the match ended in a 1-1 tie. Evan Dippon scored the Wawasee goal, assisted by Ashton Stookey.
Volleyball
Wawasee struggled at the Westview Invite, going 0-4 to land in eighth place in the standings.
Wawasee lost to Westview 25-13, 25-22, to South Bend Adams 12-25, 25-23, 6-15, to Central Noble 25-19, 25-19, and to Whitko 14-25, 25-21, 10-15.
Statistical leaders for the Lady Warriors (1-8) included Brooke Heche with 22 digs, 11 assists and five aces, Peyton Rookstool with 12 kills, Courtney Larson with nine kills and nine blocks, and Elizabeth Kleopfer with 18 assists, eight kills and four aces.
The Wawasee freshman team took part in the NorthWood Invite and claimed two wins.
Wawasee beat NorthWood 23-25, 25-22, 15-12 and Plymouth 25-9, 25-17.
Bailey Mayhew led the team (3-0) with 15 kills and two blocks, Morgan Heche had seven digs and three aces, Cathrine Ondrla had 12 assists, three aces and three digs, and Corin Nyce had 11 assists, three aces and two digs.
Girls Soccer
It was a homecoming to forget for Wawasee head coach Tracy Swain. The Concord graduate visited her alma mater as a soccer coach for the first time and came away with an 8-0 loss to her former Minutemen.
Swain, who played on Concord’s state team in 2004, saw her current club (1-5) find no luck. Makenna DeFreese had four goals to lead Concord (2-0-2) while Mallory McCuen, Sarah Guy, Riley Cooper and Lauren Pollock all added solo goals.
Football
The Wawasee JV football team (2-0) pitched its second straight shutout with a 14-0 win at home against West Noble Saturday morning.
Gabe Moore had an 85-yard kick-off return for a touchdown and Ethan Hardy added a rushing score. Dane Jenkins had 130 yards rushing and Jesse Landers led the stout defense with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
